Sunday Movie Reviews

During the holiday week, we had a lot of family in town which meant lots of babysitters.  Buttin and I took advantage and went to see a few movies.

This is a very sweet animated holiday-ish movie.

I loved, loved, loved this adventure, survival, spiritual story.  It made Buttin and I want to snuggle Mouser (our little Richard Parker).

I knew nothing about this movie going into it, but really enjoyed it.  It's based on a true story about a physically disabled man who decides to see a sex surrogate.

Here's a picture of Cub and I from yesterday.

A Little Rant

I was planning to write about the movies we saw this weekend - Lincoln (4 cookies) and Silver Linings Playbook (3.5 cookies), but instead I have a little rant.

As a pregnant lady, I haven't really had that many cravings - but tonight  - I wanted FRIED shrimp.  Buttin said they had fried shrimp at the same place where he was going to pick up his own dinner (it's an Asian place and I haven't really wanted Asian food - but I figured, fried shrimp was fried shrimp).

Do you know what is NOT fried shrimp?  Fried shrimp with the shells STILL ON!  So, when you peel the delicious look fried shrimp - the shrimp just become boiled in oil shrimp.  It was very disappointing (and NOT FRIED SHRIMP), but I still ate them.

I'm sure you are as irate as I am - so here are some cute pictures of Cash.

This & That

A couple things:
  • I had a Chicken appointment on Friday - a very uneventful Chicken appointment.  My midwife and I just sat around and chatted.
  • Today we saw the documentary The House I Live In.  It gets FOUR COOKIES, but it's kind of depressing.  It's all about the failure of the War on Drugs, and how we're not really doing anything about it.
Here is Cub trying to climb a tree.

Sunday Movie Reviews

It was a good week for movies!

I loved this movie.  I think Tim Burton should only make animated movies.

I knew the ending of this movie, but it was still super suspenseful and wonderful.  I think my parents would really like this movie.

I was expecting to enjoy this, but I really loved this movie.  It was full of fun songs and was genuinely hilarious.

Here are Cub and Buttin doing spider swing this morning.

Sunday Movie Reviews

I was expecting more of an action/adventure/sci-fi movie, but it was more of a drama - and I liked it.  I was not expecting such a heavy and emotional impact, but it was fantastic.

Thankfully this was not an over-the-top sappy, coming of age, dramastic high school movie, even though it had many elements of one.  I did not like the climax of the story, but I really enjoyed the movie.  Buttin loved it.

Here is Cashman chasing me on the trail - apparently, this is what a slow spider looks like.

Sunday Movie Reviews

You can't really give this movie a cookie review.   It was very action-y and pretty entertaining (especially in the laughable way), but the dialogue and plot was um . . . pretty crappy.

One of the best documentaries  - EVER.  I highly recommend this movie and also recommend reading as little as possible about the movie before viewing.  It has twists and turns and two of the most fascinating documentary characters I've ever seen.

Great animated movie - but it's pretty much a horror movie.  Not really at all for children.

This afternoon it was only like 95 outside and in the shade with a little breeze, it was actually pretty nice.  Here are Cash and Buttin playing in the dirt.

Sunday Movie Reviews

Even with all craziness, Buttin and I still managed to see three movies this weekend.

It's more of the same Bourne stuff, minus Matt Damon.  I like all the Bourne movies, so I found this one entertaining too.  In all fairness we didn't get to see the last 15 minutes because lightening (apparently) struck our theater and only broke our projector.  So the ending could have been horrible, but I'm sure it just set up a sequel.

If politicians were this funny or honest, politics would be a ton more fun.  I thought this movie was hilarious.

This is a fantastic documentary about some people are are filthy stinking rich and then become a little less filthy stinking rich.  It is possible to feel sympathetic for people who live in a 28K sq. ft. house (and who are building a 90K sq. ft. house).

Here is Cub today playing outside (shocker).

Movie Weekend

It was a great weekend for movies.

Super, awesome and satisfying - I loved this movie.

It's impossible to describe this movie - I'll only say that I got completely swept up in the story and sobbed like crazy for about the last 30 minutes (Buttin cried too).

Here is Cashman today modeling my sunglasses and Buttin's glasses.

Sunday Movie Reviews

Meh.  It was kind of disappointing. It was more boring than scary, but to be fair, it wasn't very scary.

I loved this movie.  I'm not even a big fan like Wes Anderson movies, but this one was perfect.

Here's a picture of Cub from this afternoon playing "snuggle puppy".

Movie Reviews & Pictures

Loved this movie!  It was super, duper fun and I smiled, laughed and cheered the entire way.

This movie was not so great.  There were some entertaining parts, but I really didn't get it.

And now, for some pictures that Cash will hate (keep in mind, he selected his wardrobe or lack of one).

Better Than Nothing

This morning I went for my longest run in four weeks - 3.5 miles.  It wasn't great, but I guess it wasn't horrible - my feet still tingle, but I've noticed that they feel a little less tingly after I run.

This afternoon Buttin and I met Liz and Jonathan for the movie: Safe.  I give it a solid three cookies - pretty fun action movie.

Here's Cub this morning eating his lolipop.

Thirty Second Movie Reviews

It's been a while since I've done movie reviews.

I love this movie.  It's raunchy, hilarious and sappy (no big surprise - I cried - a few times).  At the end of the day, parenting isn't easy - but if you parent with the right person, it is romantic.

My expectations were not high, but this movie is awesome!  I laughed from beginning to end.  It's funny, but also extremely clever and now (against all my best efforts), I like Channing Tatum.

This is a sweet, funny and enjoyable movie.  It's kind of like a fairytale - how one coincidence leads to another and might lead you to your destiny.  Maybe Cash will still want to live at home when he's thirty . . .

Here is Cub today doing "big, big, big".

A Weekend Of Good Movies

This weekend Buttin and I saw three movies (two in the theater and one on-demand) and that must be some kind of post-Graby record.

Last night, we saw Hugo with Liz and Jonathan.  I loved it.  It was beautiful and I cried. FOUR COOKIES.

It took us two nights to watch Crazy, Stupid Love on-demand (I fall asleep early).  It was funny and fantastic and I cried.  THREE POINT FIVE COOKIES.

Today Buttin and I went to see The Descendants. It was indescribably amazing.  Not surprisingly, I cried.  FOUR COOKIES.

Today while Cub was feeding the outside cats he decided to eat some cat food.  He was pretty proud of himself.

Sunday This And That

A few updates:
  • Cub woke up early again today (yesterday - marathon day - he woke up at 4:30 AM) - 5:15 AM.  He must be teething and/or have a little cold because he is kind of a grump.
  • Adding to the grumpoticousness - only a 45 minute nap!
  • Buttin and I went to see Paranormal Activity 3 (2.5 cookies) this afternoon and when Hannah (babysitter) walked in the door - Cub started crying.  He was pretty dramatic when we left but he was fine after about three seconds.
  • I'm sore and my armpits hurt like the dickens - for some reason all my chub-rub consolidated in my armpit area (sexy, I know).
  • One small teeny-tiny thing -WE PUT IN AN OFFER ON A HOUSE!  We are so excited but are reserving full-jump-up-and-down excitement for when they accept and everything goes well.
Here is Cub today playing one of his new favorite games - Daddy's Truck.  It's a fun game to play in the morning when it's cool outside, but Cub doesn't let us turn the A/C on so in the afternoon the game is not so much fun.

An Afternoon Movie

Buttin and I have decided we need to try and go on a few dates (together).  So this afternoon we asked Hannah to come over for a few hours so that we could go see the movie, Drive (about 3.5 cookies).

I think Hannah and Cub spent the entire time while Buttin and I were gone, outside, because he was sweaty and red (and also outside) when we got home.

It was nice to get out of the house together and Cub seemed to enjoy his time with Hannah.

Here's a picture of Cub from today - not surprisingly, playing outside.

Thirty Second Movie Review - Harry Potter 7.2

Was there really any doubt? Um. No.

This movie is so awesome.  It's not surprisingly bleak and parts are more horror movie than young-adult adventure movie, but it was all extremely well done.  I loved every single moment.  I'm going to see it again tomorrow night.

Catching Up On Reviews

So, I have been going to movies and reading (um, listening to) books this summer but I keep forgetting to do cookie reviews.

Here are a couple reviews from recent movies:

Transformers Three: Something, Something Moon.

Bad transformers try to destroy the Earth and good transformers try to stop them.  Lots of stuff blows up and some pretty people say some dumb lines.

Page One: Inside The New York Times

Fascinating documentary about the New York Times.  It included many valid points for why the printed (not just blogged) word should have a place in the media spectrum.  Once upon a time I wanted to be a journalist, so I found the entire documentary engrossing.

OK - now books.

I've recently listened to three books - a series: The Hunger Games Trilogy - The Hunger Games, Catching Fire and The Mockingjay.

It's classified as young-adult fiction, but I found it to be great listening material during long-ish runs.  I actually wanted my non-turtle friends to run ahead of me so that I wouldn't have to talk (somehow, I always end up talking the most when I run with people).

The Hunger Games Trilogy is an adventure/science-fiction story set in a post World War VI-ish kind of place where the United States no longer exists (and is actually never referenced) and they have some pretty messed up forms of entertainment.   It has many of the formulaic plot devices of other young-adult series (love triangle, broken home, teen angst), but the heroine is a strong female lead, not a wet-noodle wallflower (a la Bella Swan).

I give the entire series three cookies, but the first one (The Hunger Games) is definitely the best (and probably deserves 3.5 cookies). Not surprisingly, a movie based on the first book is schedule for release on March 12 2012.

Now, here's a picture of Cash-cub.  He's rolling rocks down a toy fire truck ladder (aren't you glad I clarified that it was a toy truck?) and I think the pose is hilarious.

Thirty Second Movie Review - Super 8

Super 8

Loved this movie so much - I saw it twice in less than 24 hours.  It's an example of perfect story telling.

There is one line in particular that just stuck with me.  I'm paraphrasing, but the main character (a pre-teen boy) says about his mother (who died) - There was a way she would look at me and in that look, I knew I was there - that I existed.

It got me the first time and got me even worse the second time.

Thirty Second Movie Review - Bridesmaids

Bridesmaids

Love, love, love this movie so much - I saw it twice!  It's almost as funny as The Hangover, but it has more heart.

Now, here's a little picture of my cookie monster.  Still not eating a cookie, but making a good mess.
