On Friday Buttin and I will be taking a short (Friday - Monday), but much anticipated trip to Chicago with our friends Liz and Jonathan.
I don't think Buttin and I have been out of town together since the last time we went to Chicago with Liz and Jonathan and that was two years ago.
I cannot wait to run by Lake Michigan, eat pizza and sleep in, but I have to admit the idea of being away from Cub for three nights is a little sad. I know he'll have Mormor to keep him busy.
Cub (who by the way has a new tooth - I think it's one of his canines) and I went to the splash pad today and had an hour of fun (although it was hot)
We spent about five minutes at the splash pad.
And the other fifty-five minutes chasing birds.
We are excited about the trip too! I was on the phone with Alex earlier and he will be sending our final agenda in the next day or so. Highlights so far:
ReplyDeletePrivate tour of the Federal Reserve (no, they won't store your magic beans so don't bring any and ask about it. No, wait, that is exactly what you should do...bring a big bag of magic beans to the Fed. Evil laugh.)
Drinking with Liz's friends at Ceres, the bar in the Chicago Board of Trade which is open M-F only and, despite not opening on the weekends, supposedly earns more money than other bar in Chicago because Traders are inveterate alcoholics.
Pequod's Pizza!!!!!!!!
Lunch Saturday at MK Burgers unless the weather is good and we go sailing on my friend Andreana's boat and watch the Air & Water Show from the lake. If the weather is good and we go sailing I guess we could get a burger before we go. I know how you like to eat lunch early....! We don't want a hungry Stephanie on our hands.
Saturday night dinner at some Pub that I forgot the name of but Alex says is great. He will put it in the agenda.
Sunday breakfast/lunch at Table 52. Fried chicken and waffles cooked by Oprah's former personal chef. Enough said.
Maybe sailing on Sunday if the weather is nice and we didn't go on Saturday. Or we can go hang out in a bar, go to North Beach to the Air and Water Show, or see a movie, or shop, or whatever. Or go to the Field Museum...they have some good exhibits right now.
Sunday night: Cubs game!
As far as Cash goes I doubt he will even notice you are gone. Here is how you pull that off. Take several pillows and arrange them in "human form" on the couch. Cover them with blankets. Next to the fake Stephanie you have now created place a box of Splenda packets (toss a few around the couch for good measure), a container of cookie dough, and a big glass of iced tea with enough Splenda in it that it can walk by itself. Done. Problem solved. Cash with think mommy is just taking a slightly longer nap than usual.
Of course you run the risk that he will bond with "Sleeping Stephanie" while you are gone and cry with confusion when you walk in the front door thus traumatizing him further than your usual parenting skills already do.
Ah, you know what? Screw it. Let the kid learn that mommy leaves sometimes and Mor Mor is more fun anyway. The truth hurts.
Your very sensitive and kind friend,
Liz
