Daddy Kisses While Cash Blows Bubbles

I was taking pictures (surprise!) of Cash and Buttin tonight and I saw this picture and thought the expression on Cash's face was funny. Then I noticed a tiny little bubble coming out of his mouth. I've officially (if it wasn't official already) become one of THOSE moms -look everything my kid does is cute - oh well, it's not so bad if it's true. Right?

Happy Father's Day & A Look-A-Like Contest!

Happy Father's Day!

It's Buttin's first Father's Day and we're spending it just like any other Sunday - on the couch, relaxing and watching TV.

And now for a cute little game of "Name That Parent & Cash Feature"

As a reminder, here are a couple cute little pictures of Cash:

Now for each of the following pictures
  • Name the parent (the only options are me or Buttin); and
  • Cash feature (options are: hair, mouth, eyes, cheeks)

The winner receives an awesome (to be determined) prize!

I Want It

Cash got tons of exercise today with MorMor.

He can now skooch (or kind of plop) over the boopy.

Here he is (very scientific time lapse photography) stalking, hunting and capturing his prey (a stuffed lion).

MorMor Is Back!

She spent about 15 minutes asleep this afternoon, Cash spent about 20 minutes. I hope he sleeps well tonight . . .

One Busy Day

Things have been very busy lately.

Buttin and I don't get to see much of each other and we rarely (if ever) get the opportunity to see a movie together. If you know us, you know that we love movies and they're important to us.

Our favorite theater is the Alamo Drafthouse and pre-baby Graby you could find us there on any given Friday night with our friends, Liz and Jonathan. Alamo has this cool thing for parents called "baby day" where the first afternoon show of every movie on Tuesday is for parents with small children (they get in free). They keep the lights on a little higher and the sound a little lower and you don't have to worry about inconveniencing other people because you have a crying baby.

So -today was our first movie out as a family. Cash's first movie in the theater was R-rated, aren't we good parents?

Here he is with Buttin:

Cash slept during most of movie and was a very good baby. There were several other parents of tiny infants in attendance - I think the smallest was a month old. Ahh . . .I remember when Cash was only a month old.

As if that wasn't enough excitement for one day (we also went to work in the morning), Cash and I went out to dinner with my friend Suzin and her two children.

Her daughter Taylor was so sweet with Cash. She held him for about 10 minutes and when he would fuss she would pull him closer and pat him on the tummy. She's better with Cash than many adults. She also left me a message after dinner talking about all the things she has waiting for Cash at her house for when she gets to babysit him. Such a sweetheart.

Here they are:

We got home around 6:30 and Cash was exhausted. Tomorrow should be more relaxing. MorMor is coming into town so Cash will have every single one of his wants met, instantly.

Cash's First Screenplay

If you don't already know it - this post will confirm it - I'm a huge dork.

Last night was Cash and my first night alone without Buttin. In all my dorky wisdom I decided to send Buttin an email containing a screenplay from Cash.

The story contains quite a few jokes that Buttin might only understand, but I know the grandmas will appreciate all the pictures.

I'll leave out all the cheesy, "Hi Daddy - it's me Cash and here's my screenplay" stuff that I put in the email to Buttin and just give you all the plot (of which there's not much) and pictures (of which there are many).

Screenplay: THERE WILL BE SWADDLES

Author: C.H. Naylor (because he'll only use his first two initials as his professional name - like J.K. Rowling, H.P. Lovecraft or H.I. McDunnough)

Starring: Cash Hansen Naylor as DANNY PLAINBLANKET

THE END

I hope you enjoyed it!

Boob Update #582

Well not really, but it certainly does feel like it.

Today I had (yet) another follow up appointment with Dr. Surgeon.

Thankfully, I'm almost back to normal!! Dr. Surgeon said I had done an excellent job draining my boobie and that it looked very good. I'll finish up the last couple of days on my antibiotics, but I don't need a follow-up appointment unless I notice things going poorly again. I'll be so relieved when this whole ordeal is finished.

In other less bodily function related news, Buttin is in Dallas for the night. He's trying to find me a new vehicle (because the Mustang doesn't work well with a car seat and Buttin wants his truck back). This will be our (mine & Cash) first night without Buttin. We'll miss him a ton.

Here's a funny little picture of Cash. He's really starting to fill out his soccer onesie - the spandex really shows off his awesome spare tire.

Did It Feel Like This Last Year?

Because of my boobie infection I haven't been able to run in about three weeks. I felt like I got a really good start about four weeks postpartum and now (or whenever I am able to start running again) I'm starting over, again.

I'm reading all my usual running blogs and they're making me jealous. I see people running (some even in the afternoons) and I'm jealous. My only worry is that - will my body be able to adjust to all this heat and humidity?

I don't remember it being THIS hot or THIS humid this time last year - but maybe my body just had time to adjust. Cash-man and I have been going on walks in the morning and even just walking (at 6 AM) is miserable. Maybe when I start running, I'll work up a little breeze or at least that's my hope. I just can't believe that this time last year I was running double digit mileage in this kind of weather.

Well, like my friend Liz always says - it's good to have a goal - so my goal is by Labor Day to have run at least one double digit mileage run even with all this heat and humidity.

Here's a little silly picture of Cash - I wonder if his cheeks were measured they'd be in the 100th percentile.

Dear Cash - 2 Months

This idea is stolen from my friend Lisa. She had twin girls about a year and a half ago and every month she writes them a letter on her blog. I had meant to write one for Cash's one month, but I just got so busy (lame excuse, I know). So - here goes . . .

Dear baby Cash,

So many things have changed in our lives since your arrival two months ago.

I'm not very surprised that we hardly ever call you just Cash; however, I am surprised that the nickname Lumpy has not stuck (it feels so strange since Lumpy was your name even before you were conceived). We instead have many of new names for you - your dad and I both call you Graby (that's grumpy+baby=Graby), I call you Dungadoobar (I think I got this from a TV clip we saw on The Soup), you dad calls you, Cash Man & Little Man and we both call you baby Cash and Cash baby pretty frequently.

You have grown so much in the last couple of months, but when I see you next to me in the mirror I realize that you're still so very small and totally dependent upon Buttin and me for everything.

During the last month, you've started smiling - A TON! You are especially smiley when you wake up around 5AM ready to eat, play and start your day. I thought you'd be more of a nighttime baby, but as it turns out - you're a morning baby. I think you take after me when it comes to sleeping (at least right now) - early to bed, early to rise and lots of naps in the afternoon.

Most weekday mornings, you and I go into work to see your dad and all your misfit friends. You fight taking a nap at work so much that by the time we get home in the afternoon you're a super tired Graby. At work, you are entranced by the lights in you aunt Patty's office. Actually, you're mesmerized by all lights and fans.

In the afternoons you and I come home, cuddle and sleep on the couch and play. This is usually the time of day when I take your picture about 500 times. To you dad and I (and probably a couple other people), you are the cutest baby in the entire world.

You really are a wonderful and (for the most part) calm baby. I've loved watching you sleep since the first hour you were born and now, as you get older, I love watching you look around as you discover another fan (or light) or something else that captures your attention. However, I love nothing better than when you meet my eyes and smile. Your toothless grin makes us so happy.

I love every little thing about you, Cash - the way you scrunch up your face right before you're about to cry, how you fart when you eat, how you love your bath, the smiles you give me, the noises you make, your curiosity with all things relating to lights and fans and how you look when you sleep.

I had no idea what this type of love would feel like - but it's amazing. I now completely understand how my parents feel about me.

Please be sweet to your dad and me and please don't grow up to quickly.

Love,
Your Mom

I couldn't post just one picture for today, so here are a few of my favorites from the last couple of days.

Happy Birthday To Me!

The big 32!

What do I want? Is the eradication of my boob infection too much to ask for?

This is my first birthday as a blogger and a mother. This is also the first birthday in LONG time that I have received an action figure as a birthday gift - yup, that's right, my dear friend Liz got me a Prince of Persia action figure (along with a mani/pedi) - I'm not sure what she thinks I do with all my spare time.

I'll be relaxing and eating most of the day, but I do plan to go to work for a couple of hours just to get a few things done. Not sure what Buttin and I will do for my birthday dinner, but I see a great deal of cookie dough (Liz made me a batch last night) in my future.

Now, a tough little picture of Cash. Cash is telling my boobie infection. . . "why I outta".

Cellulite Issues

Please help this baby - he's got some butt dimple problems.

Two Words

1. Ewe
2. Gross

I know it may not seem like it, but even I have limits.

There is no way I would ever describe the disgustingness that occurred at Dr. Surgeon's office today.

The short story is that my boobie got drained again and I'm on antibiotics for another week - I'll go back again next Wednesday.

Now onto a picture of Cash.

Here's one of Cash and Buttin. I think they both kind of have the same look on their face - like they don't want me to take any more pictures.

It's Back

A little poem, entitled It's Back

Oh crap . . . . . . .
The boobie infection is back
Or maybe it was never gone
Stupid antibiotics are all wrong
Hopefully the pain will go away,
and then I can run again someday.

I called this morning and told Dr. Surgeon the redness and swelling had returned (not as bad as two weeks ago, but enough is enough already) and he wants to see me again. I have another appointment tomorrow afternoon.

This is what Cash thinks of my boobie infection returning:

As you can see, he's pretty upset about the situation.

Growing Up

I know Cash is not yet two months old, but he's changing daily and so quickly and I can see the next 18 years go by in the blink of an eye. This makes me excited and sad all at the same time.

I mentioned in a post last week that I'm a lot more emotional about motherhood than I expected. Tonight, we put Cash in his own room (actually just the corner of Buttin's office - but it's a start). We'll see how the night goes. Buttin keeps telling me we can always move him back into our room whenever (if ever) I want. Buttin is being wonderfully sweet about all my silly emotions.

Cash has been particularly handsome (Buttin says he has handsome days and not-so handsome days) the last couple of days.

Here are a few pictures:

Check out the belly and the cheeks!!

I love him checking out himself in the mirror.

This is his "look-away" pose - maybe he's just sick of me taking pictures.

Here's his cute little morning face.

The Sideways Smirk

This is kind of Cash's signature pose:

He's In It To Win It

No, sadly this post is not about running. But, it is about something even more entertaining.

Max is my friend Liz's new dog - he's a seven year old rescue and a sweetheart.

See . . .super cute:

Now that Max is fully integrated into the family, he's begun to exhibit some pretty disgusting habits. He likes to hump the two other dogs, Oliver and Kodi, and my personal favorite - he likes to lick Kodi's ears until they are absolutely soaking in puppy spit.

Jonathan (Liz's husband) is mortified by this behavior, but Liz and I find it hilarious. So hilarious, I had to take pictures.

Here is a tongue action shot:

Here's Max with pretty much his entire snout inside of Kodi's ear:

Max is showing some real effort in vying for the title of the most disgusting animal known to man (and by man I mean, me and Liz), but he's going to have to step up his game in order to compete with this or this or this or (the big winner) this. Good luck Max, I have a feeling we'll be seeing lots more disgusting behavior from you in the years to come.

Whoops!

My home interweb wasn't working yesterday, so I wasn't able to post.

Here's a cute picture of Cash with his new wrist rattle from Gigi. I'll write more later.

A Couple Random Things

I've been a little distracted and scattered these past couple days - just trying to get healthy. This blog post has no real theme, just some random updates.

I had my postpartum appointment with Dr. Elephant yesterday and I told him that I was beginning to think he didn't like me since every time I've ever REALLY needed him (i.e. birth of child & boob infection) he has been unavailable. Harrumph! I was just teasing him, but he said (very genuinely) that he was sorry he missed out on Cash's birth (funny . . .he didn't mention being sorry about missing my boob infection fiasco). He also said I was one of his favorites, to which I said something to the effect of, "oh, I bet you say that to everyone" to which his nurse rolled her eyes and said, "oh no he doesn't".

Everything looks good (except for the boob issue), Dr. Elephant even said when he was pressing on my stomach that it was a very small stomach and said, "good job". It would be rather embarrassing to have a generous weight gain after having the baby.

He did get the results back from the culture that the surgeon took on Monday from my Dr. Seuss milk and said he suspected that the surgeon would probably change my prescription. Dr. Elephant said that it didn't look like milk was collecting in the area so I probably will not need it drained again - just more antibiotics. He was rather impressed (in an I'm a freak kind of way) how large the infected area was - I told him that it used to be twice the size it currently is and that I feel tons better than I did on Monday. I think he expected me to be in more discomfort, but what I'm feeling now is TONS better than what I felt like earlier in the week.

In other Dr. Elephant news, I'm back on the pill. It's a different one for me - it's breastfeeding safe.

(Onto next topic . . . no transition).

Buttin and I decided that we were going to move Cash's bed into Buttin's office. That way, we could kind of have our bedroom back and Cash would have a darker room to sleep (since we're starting to put him to bed between 7 & 8 every night).

I couldn't do it last night. I expected to be a more practical mom, but it turns out I'm a lot more sentimental. It feels so strange to feel sad about this one tiny little step, but I know that we'll probably sleep better and he probably doesn't care one way or the other.

Here's a cute picture of Cash, post bath with an awesome Daddy hairstyle.
